Photography lectures - student comments:

Thanks again for the great class, it was truly inspiring and helpful. I particularly enjoyed the part on post processing.

As you mentioned, there are so many features of Adobe Lightroom that one is not aware of, so seeing you process our pictures in class gave me a much better understanding of this software.

"What does this mean to me?" Exactly this question, plus the other 100+ amazing techniques, tips and tricks to turn snapshots into photographs, are the reason why this is one of the best lectures I have attended so far.

Jim is a phenomanal photographer and a great teacher at the same time. His ability to explain complicated topics in a simple and effective way can probably be attributed to his previous career as a photographer and technical writer. The vast amount of samples Jim provides during his lecture, as well as the interactive discussion with the group, make this class fun and memorable.

In addition to his lecture content, Jim also provides a lot of information about interesting books and other helpful resources to guide along the learning curve of becoming a better photographer. His handouts and notes (also included on an extra CD) are also great. To top it all off, the course is almost completely camera independent. Thus, it doesn't matter if you shoot with a small interchangable lens camera or a professional DSLR. Everyone is welcome there.

So what does attending Jim's course mean to me? That the effect of improving how to see and then compose and create a photograph far outweighs the effect of buying fancier camera gear. It also means to me that I would highly recommended his lecture to anyone that's interested in becoming a better photographer.

For me, this class showed me new avenues to control my image output - the class was very coherent and logical and the different elements were well documented with samples of the specific topic.

It was worth every second spent there!

I would recommend that a photographer who just has a lil' inkling that he /she could do better take this totally non-boring class!

As I mentioned right after class, your introduction to the theory of photography as well as the post-production process with Adobe Lightroom really helped me improve my photography and post-processing skills. I was blissfully unaware to what extent Adobe Lightroom trumps Adobe Photoshop. I will definitely take a different approach to post-processing when it comes to high-resolution photos from now on.

The idea to introduce the different topics following the photo-production and post-production process was particularly helpful. It serves as a good point of departure for all students, no matter whether they are professionals or photography enthusiasts and beginners. It is self-explanatory and levels the playing field. Your introduction to the grey scale provides the knowledge to make the best of a photo that many people lack. Without it I would simply not be able to manage the whites and blacks as good as I do now. The post-processing lecture always comes in handy when I have to do color or light adjustments.

Your introduction to the nitty-gritty of photo cropping as well as the theory behind different lenses greatly benefit everyone who is aiming for the best photo possible, no matter whether its a professional or a beginner. I can therefore highly recommend your class to everyone who wants to get the best out of a photo and does not shy away from the digital post-processing of a photo.
